PD-HF Study Background - Autumn 2015

The PD-HF study will look at whether peritoneal dialysis could be an effective treatment for people with severe heart failure and who are suffering from a poor quality of life.

Many people, when asked, say that improving the quality of their lives is more important than just the length of it. Peritoneal dialysis may have a positive effect on symptoms such as shortness of breath, difficulty in walking and feeling low in mood or depressed.

The study will involve 130 people in 6 UK hospitals and last a little over two years, although each individual person taking part will be in the study for only 32 weeks.

This is an exciting and important study and we are very grateful to all those who are taking part. We will let you know the results of the study after all people taking part have finished and the analysis has been completed.
